Taking a Byte Out of Crime
Editing my theme on my WordPress site is sometimes like being a police detective on a case. You follow clues and look over evidence and sometimes, after a lot of work, a rookie just needs the insight of a more experienced member of the force.
Such was the case today when I attempted to edit a carousel element on my home page. It’s a rotating element that flips through team members and links to their profiles. The demo site I uploaded comes with example team members, and trying to figure out where to remove the extra members and how to link to new members is challenging. It was possible that because I used my iPad to edit my site, I may have been offered reduced editing ability and so I tried switching to my laptop to see if that solved the problem.
Nope, that wasn’t the issue either! It took the eagle eyes of the savvy Flightless Lass to spot the problem: I had misunderstood a clue! The function I thought added a new section actually edited my team members. Thank goodness she was on the case!
With that hurdle behind me, I checked back on the mystery of the disappearing Parallax image. Parallax images scroll at a different rate than the rest of the page. I think it’s kind of a neat feature, but most of the ones on my site aren’t working. Previously I had submitted a tech support ticket logging the issue and I heard back from tech support but they’re solution wasn’t helpful. They suggested that the demo content wasn’t imported correctly, however I know that’s not the case because I’ve already reimported the demo content once, per their advice, to solve a different issue.
Their only other suggestion was that I grant them access to my WP site so they can dig through the files directly. So I’ve set up a separate account for them that I can turn off once the issue is resolved. I’m terrified that I’ll wake up in the morning to a flipped over Turtle and a Bluebird that’s flown the coop, but sometimes you just have to trust that everything will work out. And be thankful for backups.
