No Vacancies Here

It’s week one of this project and I’m already learning things about myself I never realized before. For instance this morning I woke up feeling flat and uninterested in my work. No matter how hard I tried I just could not generate the energy necessary to dive in. After a couple hours of accomplishing not a lot, I finally gave up. Feeling disappointed in myself, I hopped in the car and drove to the University library to grab a book on blogging. We live in the boonies, so it took a good amount of time to get to my destination and back, so I spent that time listening to podcasts. Boy do I love podcasts!

When I got back home, I suddenly felt like working and it dawned on me that one of the ways I refill my creative bucket is by hearing other people’s stories. They don’t need to relate to what I’m working on, they just help me connect to myself and the world, and feed me in a way that’s necessary to my soul. I realized that this morning I wasn’t being lazy or avoiding work, I just needed to light the spark! Wouldn’t it be great if we could jump to kind assumptions about ourselves from the get go? My inner critic is always the first to pipe up, but I’m done renting her space in my head. She has over stayed her welcome, so I’m showing her the door! Sorry, no vacancies here, we’re full up!
